Different Funny T Shirt Sayings For Different Times In Life

Have you ever wondered where the t shirt came from? Who invented it? Or did it just appear one day and the idea stuck? Funny t shirt sayings did not come to be until the mid nineteen sixties. Nothing was written on the t shirts when they first appeared, no funny t shirt sayings were anywhere to be found.

Some will argue about when the first t shirt appeared. Some say the military, during World War I, can lay claim to them. They were worn under fatigues to keep them from scratching their skin. Back then those fatigues were usually made of wool and were itchy. Some will tell you that they were worn by the United States Navy sailors. Still others will tell you that the t shirt was worn by the European soldiers in the hot summer months. So now that you are totally confused, let’s get on with the funny t shirt sayings.

The word tee-shirt had made it into the Merriam Webster dictionary by the early nineteen twenties. Most people would wear these shirts under their outer clothes, hidding them away. But in nineteen fifty the trusty old t shirt itself was unhidden, even becoming a status symbol because they were worn openly by James Dean and Marlon Brando.

And now today t shirts are worn everywhere, with everything. Some are just solid, others do have funny t shirt sayings. Is there one person that invented the funny t shirt sayings? No, I don’t think so. I think they just started appearing and the idea caught on. All you have to do is take a plain t shirt and have someone silk screen whatever you want on it. They don’t cost a lot of money, so go ahead and get six of them. My son has about twenty of them.

Let us start out with the funny t shirt sayings for babies. I saw one the other day and almost lost control of my car. I saw a set of twins while waiting for the light. I looked over and one twin had the funny t shirt saying “I Pee.” The other twin had a t shirt that said “I Poop.” Hello! Well I thought it was funny. Or how about a baby funny t shirt saying that reads “I still live with my parents.” These will make most people smile and some laugh out loud. One of my cousins has one that reads “Party at my Crib, 2:00 AM, BYOB.”

Small kids, oh around six to ten years old have their own set of funny t shirt sayings. One that sticks out in my mind is “My Brother Did It.” This could be humorous whether the child has a brother or not. Of course to me one of the funniest things I have seen written on a shirt for young kids is “Mom Likes Me Best.” It is an old saying and a classic. Or the one that says “No, You Calm Down.” This one does make me chuckle.

Teenagers, what can I say about them and their funny t shirt sayings? Where some of the sayings come from is beyond me. It seems like t shirts are all they wear nowadays. You can walk into any school in the country and ninety nine percent of the teenagers wear t shirts. And the sayings can either crack me up or make me mad. Most of them though are pretty funny. One I saw the other day said “Penguins Ate My Homework” But wearing things with funny t shirt sayings on them in school can be tricky. Some kids are offended at some of what's written, so the school has to be careful as to what is allowed and what is not.

Young people of the ages of about eighteen to thirty have their own funny t shirt sayings. In their world, life can be a joke and they prove it with the things they wear. One I like is “Who Pissed in Your Wheaties?” I even had a t shirt that said that. Or another one “Did You Eat a Bowl of Stupid for Breakfast?” Okay, they might be taken the wrong way, but the way I look at it, life is hard enough. You need a bit of humor in it to make it a bit easier to cope with. My son loves bacon, no doubt about it, so I bought him a shirt that has “Bacon Makes Everything Better” on it. Well, yes it does actually.

Girls like a little humor on their shirts as well as boys. Well maybe not quite as much. But it's close! You will see some of them that are cute. I even had one many years ago that said “Ninety Percent Angel, Ten percent Devil.” That one got a few laughs, especially if the person reading it knew me at all.

All in all, I’d say most of us do like reading funny t shirt sayings. Walk along a busy street in Anytown USA and you will see all kinds. Some are extremely funny, some are not. I guess it depends on your sense of humor. And some people just don’t have a sense of humor.

One of my favorite funny t shirt sayings is one I saw about twenty years ago. I heard it, I didn’t read it, so I went and had it put on a t shirt. “God does have a sense of Humor, He made Man.” When people read that it does put a smile on their faces and that’s a good thing.
