A few weeks ago, a friend of mine got married to her longtime boyfriend. They had been dating for over 5 years. Their excuse for not marrying sooner was that they did not want to be tied down by a ball and chain - a statement that would become all too real via props and humorous cake toppers. Of course, the whole thing perfectly suited their off the wall personalities. The bride and groom are both a little on the comical side and are known for pulling some crazy pranks on their friends and family. Everyone was wondering what kind of crazy plans the two of them would come up with at the wedding. I should have known that they would not let us down.
The wedding ceremony actually started off on the right track. It was all perfectly normal until after the vows were said. After they were pronounced husband and wife, the maid of honor handed the bride a gift bag. The wife then gave the bag to her new husband. He proceeded to pull out a ball and chain. The bride proudly announced that it was her wedding gift to her husband. She told him that he was hers now and hoped he liked it. Everyone started laughing. That was just the beginning of the laughter for the evening.
After the ceremony, everybody went to the community center for the reception. The reception was so much fun. The newlyweds just kept coming up with the craziest things. Although, I would have to say the best part of the reception was the wedding cake. It was an absolutely beautiful 5 layer wedding cake. The kicker was that the very top layer was crowned with one of the most humorous cake toppers that I had ever seen. The figurines of the bride and groom portrayed the groom actually wearing the ball and chain.
I would have to say that the groom got a pretty good ribbing from everyone that night. I am pretty sure he will be reminded of the ball and chain for a long, long time. They will both remember it on their first anniversary when they pull that top layer of cake out of the freezer. I can only imagine what it will be like when they have children. Hopefully, their kids will have as great a sense of humor as they do. When their kids get married, maybe they will be able to find some humorous cake toppers to keep the tradition going.
